ACS Summer Reading 2010

Hello, Parents!  It is almost time for school to release the students for the summer.  While most children will continue to read throughout the summer, there are some children who are more reluctant to read than others.  This year we will implement a very simple summer reading program to hopefully help you to keep your child/children reading during the summer months.  Students entering 2nd through 7th grade will be required to read two books over the summer.  One book will be required for all students and will be used at the beginning of the school year in various discussions and activities.  The other book will be your child’s choice, however, he/she must choose from a grade-appropriate list.  After your child reads the required book, he/she will have a simple assignment sheet to fill out and return on his/her first week back to school.  Your child’s teacher will also be giving your child a quiz on his/her first day back to school on the required book.  This will be a very simple quiz, but will ask a couple of questions that will enable us to tell that your child has indeed read the required literature.

I would like to thank you in advance for helping us to make this a successful adventure for the summer.  It is required and the students will be held accountable for doing their work over the summer.  Each student will receive this newsletter explaining what is taking place, a book list, and two activity sheets to be completed and returned at the beginning of school.

Books-A-Million will be ordering all required books very soon and you will receive a 20% discount if you choose to purchase a book from the store.  Just let them know your child attends Annunciation Catholic School and that this is a required book.  I will also be taking the lists to the public library for those of you that do not need a personal copy.

Thank you again for all you do to make reading an enjoyable, pleasant experience for your child.  And as always…

Happy Reading!
