1st Grade

Teacher: Mrs. Marie McGrew
My name is Marie McGrew. I moved here from Louisiana last year and am honored to be a 1st grade teacher at Annunciation this year. While this is my first year here, I have taught previously in public school while I lived in Louisiana.  My children are grown and I have three wonderful grandbabies that I adore.  I have a bachelor's degree from Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, LA (Mrs. House's territory) and a MEd in STEM Curriculum and Instruction from LSU. GEAUX TIGERS!

Instilling confidence by achieving goals even by minute successes, and teaching students to believe in themselves is one of my main philosophies as a teacher.  We will grow together throughout the year to be the best we can be!

Teacher: Mrs. Lauren Young

My name is Lauren Young, and I am so excited to be your child’s teacher for the upcoming school year! Just a little about me—I am a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Starkville.  I graduated from Mississippi State University in May 2016 (Hail State!). I also received my master’s degree from Arkansas State University in Educational Leadership in December 2020. My husband’s name is Jesse, and we will be married for three years this October. We have a son named Collins.

This school year will be my eighth year teaching. I have been teaching at Annunciation for seven years, and I couldn’t have imagined a better seven years of teaching. It truly is a family here, and I am so happy to be a part of it! I have taught second grade for four years, and I have taught first grade for three years. First grade expectations are much higher, but I have full confidence that we have a very smooth year ahead of us.  For those of you who are new to ACS, get ready for a great year! This school is so special, and I am so glad that you made the decision to be a part of our school family.

Assistant: Mrs. Debbie Leonard

My name is Deborah Leonard and I am Mrs. Young’s 1st grade assistant teacher. This is my 25th year at ACS and my 36th year in Education. I was a teacher in public school, before coming to ACS, where I was the 2nd grade teacher for 16 years and 2nd grade Religion teacher for 18 years. I transitioned to being an assistant , after that.

I graduated from MUW, with a Bachelor of Science. I have 3 daughters who attended ACS, then St. Mary’s. I have two grandsons here, Mark in 8th grade and David in 6th.

I love teaching children and absolutely love working with Mrs. Young! I am looking forward to another great 1st grade year!
