Mrs. Moore's positivity and optimism is CONTAGIOUS! (Seriously...)

This week ACS 4th Grade Teacher, Mrs. Moore, presented at a national conference.

Three of our amazing teachers attended the NCEA - National Catholic Educational Association's Conference in Pittsburgh.

Mrs. Moore presented on how teachers can build a love for learning through excitement and motivation! "It was such an honor to share with Catholic educators and administrators from across the country ways to motivate students and rejuvenate their passion for teaching. As they return to their schools next week they will implement the tools and techniques that I showcased: from creating a stage, to balloon pops, to fear factor, to timed challenges. One lucky teacher even ate a cricket in front of the 200 people that attended the presentation!!" said Mrs. Moore.

We are thankful for teachers that want to continue learning!

It's time to order school supplies! We will be using schooltoolbox.com again this year for a fast and easy school supply experience. Orders are shipped directly to your home, and customized orders are available if your student would like extra/additional supplies. Grades with multiple classes will have the same list; therefore, you do not have to identify a teacher to order supplies. Teacher welcome letters will still be mailed the first week of July. If you choose not to order through school toolbox, you can click the list for your child's grade and purchase those items at a store of your choice. All supplies are due at school during our Come and Go event which will take place on Thursday, August 4th from 3:00 - 6:00.

Please click the School Tool Box logo to the left, put in our school name, and purchase school supplies - it's that simple! If you have questions, please contact Casey Thomas at cthomas@annunciationcatholicschool.org.

ACS students raise over $15,000 for charities!

One of our aspirations at ACS is that every student develops a servant’s heart and finds joy in serving others. Our students learn from an early age that they can help make a difference in the world. We have community service projects for all grades, and a buddy program to help reinforce the value and importance of giving of one’s time, talents and gifts. In addition to classroom service projects, all students participate in various charitable events throughout the year.

One of our most successful and long-standing service projects is our monthly Jeans for Green fundraiser. Held on the last Friday of the month, students may wear blue jean shorts, pants, skirts, or skorts for a $1 donation to charity. Each month a different class receives this money for their charity group. Charities are subject to change based on needs in our community, society, etc. The following charities were supported through Jeans for Green:
MS Blood Services, Operation Christmas Child, MS College Dyslexia Research, St. Vincent de Paul Society, The Golden Triangle Regional Homeless Coalition, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, St. Joseph's Food Pantry, Catholic Relief Services.

Other service projects held throughout the school year include Beta Club fundraisers supporting The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, St. Vincent de Paul (Just Walk), and in-kind donations to Global Connections. School-wide service projects were also held for in-kind donations throughout this year benefitting The Columbus Lowndes Humane Society, Helping Hands (290 boxes of cereal!), and St. Joseph's Catholic Church food pantry.

This year, through various service projects, ACS students have raised over $15,000 for charities!

This year, the ACS Advisory Council and ACS Parent Student Association (PSA) have come together to host one incredible evening of festivities: The Draw Down/Art Auction Joint Event! This event will take place on April 23rd at Town Creek Hall in West Point, MS. This venue has over 18,000 square feet of space, allowing us to practice social distancing to keep attendees safe and healthy. There are two ways in which you can attend this Joint Event:

Purchase a Draw Down ticket for $100. In addition to the opportunity to win $10,000, a Draw Down ticket will admit you and a guest to the Joint Event where you can enjoy dinner, an open bar, and the ability to bid on the Art Auction’s live and silent auction items.

Purchase an Art Auction ticket for $35 at the door. Purchasing a $35 ticket at the door will admit you into the event where you can enjoy dinner, an open bar, and the ability to bid on the Art Auction’s live and silent auction items.

About the Draw Down
Draw Down tickets are $100 for a chance to win $10,000! Each ticket admits two adults (21 and older) to the Joint Event on April 23. Second chance insurance is available to purchase for your ticket for an additional $25. All cash prizes are subject to IRS requirements. You do not have to be present to win the Draw Down.

Only 300 tickets will be sold. Tickets will be drawn until only five tickets remain in the barrel. This is the final round. The remaining 5 tickets will be pulled in order. One or more "no split" tickets will cause the draw to continue forward until the last ticket, or until the remaining tickets opted to "split" the Grand Prize.

Split Ticket - Ticket owner must opt to qualify their ticket as a "split ticket" by checking the "opt in" box at the time of purchase.

Second Chance Insurance - If your ticket is one of the first 100 tickets drawn (Round One), your ticket will be returned in the barrel for a second chance in Round Two.

Draw Down tickets can be purchased online at http://bidpal.net/acs2021
Please note there is a nominal ticketing fee (2.5%) for purchasing a Draw Down ticket through Bidpal.

About the Art Auction
The Art Auction is a colorful way of raising money for our school. The Art Auction consists of a silent auction and a live auction component. Silent auction pieces always include an assortment of art, international trips, local getaways, jewelry, home décor, gift baskets, and more. Live auction pieces consist of artwork masterfully created by each ACS class. Auction items will be on display at the Joint Event on April 23.

Bidding on live auction items is reserved for those individuals physically attending the Joint Event. Bidding on silent auction items is open to EVERYONE (whether you attend the Joint Event or not) through the Bidpal website. Bidding on silent auction items takes place online at http://bidpal.net/acs2021

Due to the current circumstances with COVID-19, CSW will look very different this year. We are working hard to find fun and creative ways to celebrate the blessing of Catholic education while still adhering to all of the safety guidelines and recommendations. Here is a tentative schedule of our Catholic Schools Week activities:

January 31st - In Our Parish – 9:00 a.m. Drive -Thru Pancake Breakfast at the Annunciation Catholic Church Activities Center - This year, our traditional Pancake Breakfast fundraiser hosted by the Knights of Columbus for Catholic School's Week will be held to-go. The event will take place at the Annunciation Catholic Church Activities Building located at 823 College Street (across street from church) on Sunday, January 31st from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. To-go plates include pancakes, eggs, and sausage. Tickets can be purchased at the link below from our Eagle's Nest Spirit Store (your emailed receipt from this order is your breakfast ticket - simply show it to the person at the door to pick up your breakfast) or pay at the door the morning of the event.
https://st-marys-annunciation-catholic-school.square.site/

February 1st - In Our Community - One Mile Fun Run - Students will participate in a one-mile fun run on school grounds to celebrate In Our Community Day to kick-off Catholic Schools Week 2021. We ask that each student donate $5 (or more, if desired) to register for the event. The proceeds from this event will go to the Golden Triangle Homeless Coalition. After speaking with a representative from the organization, we have been made aware that they are in desperate need of funds right now. Due to COVID-19, they have not been able to provide warming stations on cold nights like they have done in the past. Instead, they have been providing hotel rooms to our local homeless population as funds are available. This is a wonderful way for us to help our community while adhering to our COVID-19 Safety Guidelines. Donations/Registration can be made online at https://st-marys-annunciation-catholic-school.square.site/ or by sending cash or check to the office. Students may wear athletic attire on this day.

February 2nd - In Our Nation - Parade - we will hold our annual In Our Nation Day parade at 9:30 a.m. We are unable to invite outside guests this year, but we encourage families to spectate from their vehicles along the parade route which will be around the school on Browder Street, Alabama Street, Garner Boulevard, and Maxwell Street. In addition to our parade, we will be making Valentines for Veterans to take to the local VA Clinic and writing letters to deployed troops through Operation Gratitude.

February 3rd - In Our Parents, Volunteers and Donors - This is a day for us to celebrate you! Look for a little surprise coming your way!

February 4th - Grandparents' Day (We will not be hosting any guests on campus) - We will have Grandparents' Day mass via Facebook Live at 8:30 a.m. as well as our virtual book fair. In addition, each class is working hard to prepare a video presentation; the presentations may be live or prerecorded. Grandparents will receive via email and/or text the link to view/join these presentations from their grandchild’s teacher.

February 5th - In Our Students - Students will have a fun-filled day of movies, pizza and SNOW CONES! No lunch orders needed for this day. We will be providing pizza and snow cones for every student in the school! The snow cone bus will be visiting that afternoon from 12:00 – 2:00 for an icy treat.

February 6th - Open House for Prospective Students - TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT ACS!!!

COVID-19 Update as of 12/03/20

Dear Friends in Christ,

As we begin to wind down the first half of our school year, we take time to thank our teachers, parents, students, and administrators for their flexibility, cooperation, and prayers as we have navigated our return to in-person learning. We know that this has not been easy for anyone, and we could not have
done it without everyone working together.

As we prepare for the holidays and with the release of newly update CDC guidelines for quarantine, we wanted to share our most up-to-date guidelines for exposure to and diagnosis of COVID-19. Please note, we are continually assessing our guidelines to ensure they are up-to-date and compliant with both CDC and MSDH guidelines. We wanted to highlight a few important points.

1. Travel: If a person or family travels internationally or on public transportation (i.e. airlines, buses, etc.) to an area deemed high or very high risk they should quarantine for ten days from the day they arrive home. They should be excluded from the school setting for the ten days. However, students who do not develop
symptoms and receive a negative, molecular (RT-PCR) test result after day seven may return to school. Please note, a negative rapid test result or positive antibody test result will not be accepted. Please visit the CDC Travel Recommendations by Destination webpage for the most up to date information
regarding high-risk destinations.

2. Quarantine Timelines: If a quarantine is required, the minimum time will be seven days. If after seven days, the individual receives a negative, molecular (RT-PCR) diagnostic test result, they will be allowed to return to school. If the individual is not tested, they may return after ten days, provided no symptoms
develop. Please note, negative rapid tests or positive antibody tests will not be accepted at this time.

3. Family Testing: If a member of a student or staff member’s immediate family is tested for COVID-19, the student or staff member should not return to the school setting until a negative result is reported OR a positive result is reported, and all guidelines for positive cases have been followed.

4. Exposure in the Household: If a live-in family member of a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19 and are unable to isolate from other family members, please contact your principal to develop a plan of action regarding quarantine timelines.

Once again, we cannot thank you enough for your patience as we navigate these unusual times. As we have said before, we have duties as Catholic institutions to provide safe environments for all of our teachers, staff members, and students. The guidelines presented here are not only designed to provide individual protection, but they call for our entire community to work together to protect our most vulnerable community members. If all individuals take precautions, even those who are healthy and less susceptible, together, we will protect the most vulnerable in our communities.
Psalm 41:1 tells us, “Blessed is anyone who cares for the poor and the weak; in time of trouble, Yahweh rescues him.” As members of our faith community, we can make small sacrifices in our daily routine to protect others from the risk of this virus, just as Scripture calls us to do.

In Christ,
The Office of Education Staff

Yesterday we received updated guidance from MSDH on quarantine and isolation due to exposure to COVID19. The information is below. You can always access the most up-to-date version of the guidelines at https://schools.jacksondiocese.org/education-overview/covid-19-response-resources/

1. The isolation and school exclusion period for a positive case of COVID-19 is changed from 14 days to 10 days for consistency with current CDC guidance. The 10 days is from the onset of symptoms, or the date of their test if they are asymptomatic. Note: this is only for individuals who test positive. If they are quarantining because of possible exposure it is still 14 days (see #4).

2.The exposure time to be considered a close contact to a case of COVID-19 is updated to less than 6 feet for 15 minutes cumulative throughout the day.

3. Masks should NOT be worn by children under the age of 2 or anyone who has trouble breathing, is unconscious (naps or sleeping), incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.

4.There is no test out of quarantine; the quarantine period is a full 14 days regardless of any test results during the quarantine period.

5. People who have tested positive for COVID-19 do not need to quarantine or get tested again for up to 3 months as long as they do not develop symptoms again.

6. Symptom and temperature screening recommendations added. Temperature of equal to 100○F or higher should be considered fever for screening purposes.

Although it was not our typical first week of school, it was great to be back! Having chosen to phase-in our students it enabled us to start slowly and carefully. After being out for so long, this was beneficial for our students as well as our teachers to get used to new procedures and a new environment.

As we move forward with our school year, we want to maintain this level of commitment to safety. We have created strategies that will encourage behaviors that will reduce the spread of COVID-19. In order to make sure we are effectively implementing some of these strategies, we need your help. Please contact the front office if your student or any individual who has attended a school event:

1) Tested Positive for COVID-19

2) Was exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 DIRECTLY (more than 15 minutes/ less than 6ft apart)

3) Is showing symptoms that could be COVID-19 related

With the addition of the Distance Learning Option, we need a little more time to prepare for the best environment possible for academic achievement whether that be in-person or virtually. This week will also give opportunities for teachers to go over new routines and expectations as well as assess students. In addition to a delayed start, we will be on a hybrid schedule for the first week of school. Hybrid Group 1 will report to school on Monday and Tuesday and Hybrid Group 2 will report to school on Wednesday and Thursday. Your student will not participate in distance learning on the days they do not attend school during the hybrid week. Wednesday, August 19th, will be a 3:00 dismissal to assure that both groups receive equal instructional time.

Those registered for the Distance Learning Option are not assigned to a hybrid group. The Distance Learning Option will begin on August 24th. As soon as the Distance Learning Option Plan and agreement is finalized you will receive via email.

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee the safest possible environment for an after hours program at this time. We will reevaluate and make a decision regarding offering after hours by September 1st.

Starkville bus information will be sent out Monday, August 3rd.

Lunch orders will begin the week of August 31st.

Here are some changes that will be made to our current calendar. Four additional instructional days will have to be added to the calendar. That information will be sent out as soon as possible.

August 3rd - New Faculty/Staff Orientation

August 6th – 14th Faculty/Staff report to campus for professional development and training

August 12th – Come and Go 3:00 – 6:00 for Hybrid Group 1

August 13th – Come and Go 3:00 – 6:00 for Hybrid Group 2; New Parent Orientation 6:30 via Zoom

Thank you for your continued support of our school, patience, and understanding during these unprecedented times. As we prepare for the 2020-2021 school year, we know the physical environment will look different; however, our mission of teaching the whole child through a Christ-centered environment and encouraging all students to reach their full potential by building character, fostering community, and creating lifelong learners will remain the same. We are looking forward to welcoming students to in-person instruction in our classrooms on August 11th unless communicated otherwise.

As you read through the guidelines, you will note that masks are expected to be worn by any person who can be reasonably expected to wear a mask. This includes students, teachers, and staff members. There is not a uniform policy concerning masks.

Dear Parents,

We, at Annunciation Catholic School, are preparing to re-open school and receive students on August 11th as published in our 2020-21 school calendar. We are working in consultation with the diocesan Office of Education and a diocesan task force established to create guidelines for Catholic Schools that adhere to CDC and state requirements. We will create guidelines for ACS based on the diocesan guidelines. We will publish those guidelines once developed. Please be assured that developing a plan for the safe return of students and staff is the first priority for us this summer as we navigate the realities of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thank you for your support.

Dear Catholic School Parents,

First, thank you, for your ongoing support of the Catholic school your child(ren) attends. Your support allows us to partner with you in a new way to provide Catholic education to our 3661 students across the Diocese. Please know that we recognize the added burden the Distance Learning has placed upon you as parents. We know that across the Diocese we have families that represent those that are struggling financially due to lay- offs, juggling working from home while supervising your children, and others working in essential businesses and professions that require you to go to work each day facing the coronavirus head-on. We know this “new partnership in education” has added to the stress this pandemic has placed upon us all. Each school has kept learning going forward for their students. I have been pleased to see the daily prayer, faith formation lessons, and Lenten prayer experiences provided to your children. We believe the learning experiences infused with faith formation is what sets Catholic school education apart. Our hope is that during this difficult time, the added prayers and reflections provided to your families through student lessons and social media have been a source of spiritual support for your family.

Since March 13th with the first directive to schools regarding what is now the COVID-19 pandemic, Diocesan Office of Education staff and Catholic School Administrators across the Diocese have met weekly as schools have navigated the new reality of Distance Learning at each of our schools. Our teachers have worked hard to keep learning moving forward for your children. Thank you, teachers. As you know, what began as a 2-day closure to prepare after spring break quickly changed to extend the closure of schools through Friday, April 17. Along the way, we have monitored the announcements of the medical and governmental leadership. It became clear that we would likely not return to school to finish this school year. And, as you know the Governor announced yesterday that public schools would not return to the school building but would continue to provide distance learning. Because Bishop Kopacz and I, in consultation with diocesan and local school administrators, agree that it is in the best interest of our students, your families, our staff, or the community in which you live, the Diocese of Jackson Catholic School buildings will remain closed for instruction and will continue with distance learning to complete this academic school term.

In order to bring the school term to a successful end the following schedule will be followed:

▪	April 15 – May 8 ~ Daily distance learning instruction continues
▪	May 11 – May 15 ~ Students complete and submit assignments and assessments
▪	May 18 – May 21 ~ Books, technology, team uniforms, etc. will be collected in a manner determined and communicated by the local School Administrator.
▪	May 22 ~ Final report cards issued.

Local school administrators will continue to communicate with you as the school year continues.

Please be assured of the support of Bishop Kopacz, diocesan leadership, and especially the Office of Education staff. We continue to pray for you. May God bless your family during the Easter season,

Sincerely,

Catherine D. Cook, Ed. S Superintendent of Education

The decision has been made to close schools and early learning centers for the week of March 23-27. The following is a link to the letter from Bishop Kopacz (click the headline of this post) that announces the suspension of all Masses and parish activities at Catholic churches throughout the Catholic Diocese of Jackson.

We continue to monitor the COVID-19 progression in our state and will determine on a week-by-week basis if schools/centers will be able to reopen the following week. Catholic School principals will communicate to you how remote learning will be implemented for your children.

Thank you for your continued support. Keep doing your part to protect yourself and others by practicing social distancing.

God bless you and your family.

On Thursday, November 21st Annunciation Catholic School (ACS) will hold the much anticipated ribbon cutting ceremony and reception for the new building expansion. Talks of expanding the campus have been ongoing for several years due to increasing enrollment every year. ACS enrollment has almost doubled in the last seven years, and the school has seen a 97% increase in that time. After much discussion and research, school administration decided the best plan of action financially would be to build on the current location.
ACS began a capital campaign last spring to raise the 3 million needed to move forward with an expansion. The new expansion will include 6 new classrooms, computer/STREAM lab, science lab, library and administrative offices. The front of the school will also get a revamp. During the ceremony, representatives from each committee that worked on the expansion will be present, as well as Bishop Joseph Kopacz and Catherine Cook, Superintendent, to cut the ribbon on this exciting new venture. The ceremony will also include speakers that consist of staff, students, and parents of our school.
Principal, Joni House states, “"The construction of this new building is more than just walls and ceilings, it is the opportunity to continue our mission of higher learning in a Christ-centered environment. It gives us the opportunity to accept additional students each year and offer a more STREAM focused curriculum."
“What an honor it is to work along so many others who have sacrificed personally and financially to provide an ever expanding learning environment for our Annunciation Catholic School students and faculty. As we continue our school's mission of building character, fostering community and creating lifelong learners, we can't help but remember those sacrifices of so many in our school's history. They formed the foundation that we have the privilege to be building on. The new opportunities that will be afforded our students and faculty is absolutely amazing. What a challenge and opportunity.” – Father Jeffrey Waldrep, Pastor of Annunciation Catholic School and Church
ACS will celebrate Mass in the school gym, followed by the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Reception at 9:15 a.m. The celebration will continue at 5:00 p.m. with a Grand Opening celebration to include a BBQ dinner, light music, and guided tours of the facility. ACS would like to invite all friends, family, and supporters of the school to attend either event.

The Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge started on May 6th. Your student should have received his/her username and password to log on to the Scholastic Summer Reading log. Students must log minutes every two weeks. You cannot go back and log minutes past two weeks. To visit the Scholastic Summer Reading website go to https://www.scholastic.com/summer/home/. Due to renovations on campus, the library will not be open during the summer this year.

Annunciation has been awarded "Best in State" for the past six years for having read the most minutes over the summer. Let's strive for year number seven! Mrs. Doumit has set a school wide goal this year of 1,000,000 minutes! This is a great opportunity for students to stay on top of their reading and have some fun at the same time over the summer.
Staff Spotlight of the Week is Kindergarten Teaching Assistant, Janice Greenslade. This is Janice’s 7th year at ACS as Mrs. Ford’s Assistant and Janice’s 10th year as an ACS mom. With her youngest son, Rhett, set to promote from the current 8th grade class, Janice’s three children are, or will all soon be, ACS Alumni. Janice is a graduate of the University of Alberta, Canada where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Anthropology and New Mexico State University, Las Cruces where she earned a Master’s Degree in Anthropology.

“I would love to share two of the things that I enjoy most about being a Kindergarten Teaching Assistant. First, there is something magical that seems to happen for many kindergartners about three quarters of the way through the school year. About this time, many students truly begin to grasp how to write their thoughts and ideas down on paper in a manner that a reader can understand. The children use inventive spelling to sound out their words, they understand the need to put spaces between words so that the reader knows where each word begins and ends, they remember to start a sentence with a capital letter and they know that there are a variety of available options in terms of punctuation. Somehow these things seem to click and the sheer joy and excitement on the children’s faces is nothing short of wonderful. The second thing that I absolutely love about being in kindergarten is the opportunity to dance on a regular basis, on the spur of the moment or at the drop of a hat. Kindergartners dance with little regard to how they look, rather they simply enjoy how it feels and these sweet, sweet kiddos never seem to criticize my own dance moves … who could ask for anything more?” - Janice Greenslade

During Catholic Schools Week In Our Community Day, each class has participated in a service project that aims to help those less fortunate in our community. This year we have decided to do a school wide project. We are honored to be able to partner with our local soup kitchen, Loaves and Fishes of Lowndes County to provide lunches-to-go for children to bring home on the weekends. It is hard to imagine that the only meals some children in our town get are those they receive at school, but it happens every day. Your family has a chance to help alleviate this hunger. Our goal is to fill sacks for 1000 adults and children to take home. For this to happen, we need each child to bring enough to fill 5 bags. Zachary's is donating the paper sacks. We ask that you and your child discuss this service project and maybe even take them with you to purchase the food. It is the goal of Catholic education to send our children out into this world ready to do whatever they can to end social injustices like poverty and hunger. This is one small step in that education. We are asking each child to bring the following to school by January 25th. Each class will assemble their own bags during CSW. Thank you in advance for doing your part to stamp out hunger in Columbus.

5-14oz Chef Boyardee with pop tab
5- 16 oz bottle waters
5- breakfast bars- any kind but no nuts

STREAM Toward a Brighter Tomorrow!

ACS is proud to announce the addition of STREAM. Here at ACS we have always focused on the different components of STREAM (science, technology, religion, engineering, art, and mathematics), but this year we are going EX-STREAM!

What is STREAM?

STREAM (science, technology, religion, engineering, art, and math) is an expansion of the STEM movement. As a Catholic school, we have a mission to educate the whole child, so we have taken the components of STEM and incorporated religion so as to strengthen each child’s faith journey. The arts are also an integral component so as to give each child a way to creatively express themselves and their newly strengthened knowledge and provides them a way to think about the Engineering Design process with an aesthetic perspective.

A common misconception related to STREAM is that it is a set curriculum. In reality, STREAM is simply a framework for a creative approach to delivering educational standards. In other words, STREAM is an innovative way of presenting concepts to students so as to maximize engagement, increase rigor, and to approach problem-solving with an understanding of the rights and responsibilities of living in an interconnected digital world.

STREAM is also a visual description of how this initiative works. Core areas such as science and math are interwoven seamlessly with engineering concepts, and collaboration, cooperative learning, and dialogue flows amongst students, faculty, and stakeholders.

Why is STREAM important?

In a global economy that is becoming increasingly complex, excellence is not just measured by what you know, but more and more by what you can do with what you know. It is increasingly important to equip our students with skills and dispositions that can make them successful in careers and fields that don’t even exist yet. Solving a tough problem, finding the best answer among many possible solutions, developing prototypes, effectively engaging in evidence based argument, creative problem solving, and preparing to defend data are just a few of the skills that are essential to the future success of our students.

How is ACS implementing STREAM?

Annunciation is leading the way in the Southeast in STREAM implementation. The Arts in the Classroom Initiative, Arts Captivating Spirits incorporates the arts into all subject areas. ACS is committed to giving students 21st century technology skills by focusing on coding and robotics. Technology is also integrated into all subject areas to empower students to leverage technology to reach their learning goals. 21st century learning and innovation skills (critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity) are integrated through inquiry-based learning. To demonstrate a commitment to excellence in STREAM, a STREAM Coordinator was added to the ACS family in the fall of 2018. Professional development with a focus on STREAM has allowed for dialogue, networking, and vertical planning; STREAM principles are now evident in all grades and special classes. ACS has been so successful in implementing STREAM because the philosophy of interconnected content areas, higher order thinking, and a focus on empathy and social justice have always been the priority of Annunciation Catholic School.

ACS Staff Spotlight of the week is music/theatre teacher, Mrs. Celsie Staggers! She has been a member of the ACS family for the past 9 years. Mrs. Staggers earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Commercial Music with an emphasis on voice from Mississippi University for Women. Some of her notable accomplishments are her 19 published songs including the national best seller "All the World is Winter" available in three voicings for ensembles of all sizes.

Mrs. Staggers also offers private lessons in voice and beginner piano. In addition to the Music Theory the students learn in class, this gives them confidence and something to be passionate about.

"While not everyone is the best reader, the greatest artist, or strong at math, some students truly excel in music when given one-on-one guidance. Studies show the arts strengthen your reading and math abilities as well; so it's a double win all the way around." - Celsie Staggers

Representatives from Scholastic visited our campus on November 8th to present us with our official award plaque and banner. A huge thank you goes out to our librarian, Mrs. Doumit, for coordinating this program every year.
